Description

This WILA Type 86° gooseneck punch is designed for sheet metal components that require additional clearance between the upper tool and previously formed flanges. Its deeply recessed body profile allows return flanges, U-shaped channels and box-type components to move past the punch body with a reduced risk of tool-to-workpiece interference.

Compared with a conventional straight press brake punch, the 50 mm-wide gooseneck profile provides significantly more side clearance. This makes the tool especially useful for second and subsequent bends on parts where an existing flange would otherwise collide with the upper tool.

The 86° punch angle is suitable for general air bending and for producing nominal 90° bends while allowing appropriate compensation for material springback. Its R1 mm tip radius provides accurate bend-line control, while the 8 mm tip width offers a practical balance between access to smaller bending areas and structural strength.

With a 98 mm working height and maximum load capacity of 65 ton/m, this gooseneck upper tool is suitable for light- and medium-duty sheet metal forming. It is manufactured from high-strength 42CrMo alloy tool steel and hardened to HRC54±2 for dependable wear resistance, dimensional stability and repeated bending accuracy.

Typical Applications

This WILA Type gooseneck press brake punch is suitable for:

  • Bending U-shaped channels and profiles
  • Forming return flanges and reverse bends
  • Producing box-shaped and tray-shaped sheet metal parts
  • Completing second and subsequent bends on pre-formed components
  • Bending components with inward-facing flanges
  • Avoiding interference between the workpiece and punch body
  • Electrical cabinets and control enclosures
  • Metal boxes, trays and equipment housings
  • HVAC ducts and ventilation components
  • Machinery covers and industrial panels
  • Stainless steel, mild steel and aluminium sheet fabrication
  • CNC hydraulic and servo-electric press brake applications

Actual bend capacity depends on the workpiece material, sheet thickness, bending length, selected lower-die V-opening and forming method. The required bending force must remain within the rated capacities of the punch, lower die and press brake.

Product Details & Manufacturing Quality

The gooseneck punch is manufactured from selected 42CrMo alloy steel, providing a reliable combination of mechanical strength, toughness and fatigue resistance. Its working area is hardened to HRC54±2 to improve resistance to wear and deformation during repeated production.

Precision machining ensures consistent control of the 86° working angle and R1 mm punch-tip radius across the complete tool length. Accurate geometry helps maintain bend-line positioning and consistent forming results in batch production.

The recessed body is designed to increase usable clearance around previously formed flanges. However, the actual clearance available for a specific component depends on the flange height, bend position, workpiece angle and tool segmentation. Customers can provide their component drawings so that the tool profile and bending sequence can be checked before production.

The tool can be supplied as a continuous-length punch or as a segmented set. Segmented tooling provides greater flexibility when producing boxes, trays, narrow profiles and components with complex bending sequences.
