WILA Type V8 30° Pre-Hemming Lower Die – H55mm, R1, 80 Ton/m
This WILA Type V8 30° lower die is designed for acute-angle forming, pre-hemming and precision sheet metal bending. It features an 8 mm V-opening, 55 mm working height, R1 mm shoulder radius and 80 ton/m maximum load capacity. Compared with a narrower V6 die, the V8 opening provides additional forming space and is suitable for a broader range of thin-sheet bending applications.

Description
The WILA Type V8 30° lower die is a compact acute-angle bending tool developed for precision pre-bending, hemming preparation and multi-stage sheet metal forming. Its 8 mm V-opening provides a practical intermediate option between very narrow thin-sheet dies and larger general-purpose V-dies.
The 30° groove allows sheet metal to be formed to a deep acute angle when paired with a suitable acute-angle punch. This makes the die particularly useful for the first forming stage of an open, closed or teardrop hem. After the acute pre-bend has been produced, the component can be transferred to a flattening die or dedicated hemming tool to complete the required edge profile.
Compared with a V6 acute-angle die, the V8 opening provides greater clearance for the material during forming and will generally produce a larger natural inside bend radius. It can also reduce the required air-bending force for the same material and bending length, although the final result depends on material type, thickness, grain direction and punch-tip radius.
The die has a 55 mm working height and a 17 mm lower mounting section, resulting in an approximate overall height of 72 mm. Its compact 25 mm body width and 13 mm bottom tang are designed for compatible WILA Type lower-tool clamping systems.
Manufactured from 42CrMo alloy tool steel and hardened to HRC54±2, this press brake lower die delivers the strength, dimensional stability and wear resistance required for accurate production bending.

Typical Applications
This WILA Type V8 acute-angle die is suitable for:
- Creating deep acute bends below 90°
- Preparing sheet metal edges for hemming
- First-stage forming of open, closed and teardrop hems
- Multi-stage bending and flattening processes
- Precision air bending with a narrow V-opening
- Forming relatively small inside bend radii
- Bending short flanges and compact sheet metal profiles
- Electrical enclosures and control cabinets
- Metal doors, covers, trays and equipment housings
- HVAC ducts and ventilation components
- Automotive and appliance sheet metal parts
- Mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium fabrication
- CNC hydraulic and servo-electric press brake production
This die performs the acute pre-bending stage of a hemming process. A flattening die, hemming table or dedicated two-stage hemming system is required to complete the folded edge.
Material thickness must not be selected from the V-opening alone. The correct tooling combination should be determined according to material tensile strength, bend length, punch radius, required inside radius and press brake capacity.
V6 vs. V8 Acute-Angle Die Selection
The V6 and V8 versions serve related but different forming requirements.
A V6 lower die is generally preferred when processing thinner material, producing a smaller natural inside radius or forming particularly narrow flanges. Its smaller opening offers concentrated bend-line control but normally requires more bending force for the same material.
The V8 lower die provides additional material clearance, a somewhat larger natural bend radius and generally lower air-bending force under comparable conditions. It is a versatile choice when the V6 opening is too narrow but a larger conventional V-die would not provide the required acute-angle forming capability.
Final tool selection should always be confirmed using the workpiece drawing and actual material specifications.
Product Details & Manufacturing Quality
The lower die is manufactured from selected 42CrMo alloy tool steel for an effective balance of mechanical strength, toughness and fatigue resistance. Its working area is hardened to HRC54±2 to help resist shoulder wear, indentation and groove deformation during repeated bending cycles.
Precision machining maintains the 30° groove angle, 8 mm V-opening and R1 mm shoulder geometry along the die length. Consistent geometry improves bend-line accuracy, forming repeatability and alignment between segmented sections.
The R1 shoulders provide controlled contact as the sheet moves into the V-groove. Correct punch alignment and an appropriate punch-tip radius help reduce uneven bending, surface damage and localized material stress.
The die may be supplied in a continuous length for long straight bends or as a segmented set for boxes, trays, localized hems and complex bending sequences.
