$80.00$88.00

This WILA Type V16 30° lower die is designed for acute bending and edge pre-forming of approximately 2 mm sheet metal. It features a 16 mm V-opening, 55 mm working height, 30 mm die width, R1.5 mm shoulders and an 80 ton/m load rating. The wider V16 groove promotes smooth material flow and provides a practical solution for pre-hemming, folded edges and multi-stage bending.

Description

Developed for bending sheet metal around 2 mm thick, this WILA Type V16 lower die combines a 16 mm V-opening with a deep 30° groove. The specification follows a widely used air-bending starting point in which the V-opening is approximately eight times the material thickness:

2 mm sheet thickness × 8 = 16 mm V-opening

This relationship makes the V16 die a practical choice for many 2 mm mild-steel components. It offers an effective balance between forming force, minimum flange requirement, natural inside bend radius and material support during the bending cycle.

The deep 30° groove allows the sheet to travel beyond a conventional right-angle position when paired with a suitable acute-angle punch. It can therefore be used to manufacture finished acute profiles or to create the preliminary fold required before a hemming or flattening operation.

Compared with the narrower V6, V8 and V12 dies in the same product range, the V16 version provides more room for material movement and generally produces a larger natural inside radius. Its wider 30 mm die body and R1.5 mm shoulders create a more substantial working profile suited to the forming behavior of approximately 2 mm sheet.

The tool has a 55 mm working height and a 17 mm lower mounting section, giving it an approximate overall height of 72 mm. Its 13 mm bottom tang is designed for compatible WILA Type lower-tool clamping systems.

With a maximum rated load of 80 ton/m, 42CrMo alloy-steel construction and HRC54±2 working hardness, the die is suitable for accurate and repeatable sheet metal production.

Designed Around 2mm Sheet Metal Bending

A V16 opening is commonly selected as an initial option for air bending 2 mm mild steel because the opening is eight times the nominal sheet thickness. This ratio can provide:

  • A practical balance between bending force and bend radius
  • Sufficient clearance for material movement
  • Stable support on both die shoulders
  • Reduced localized pressure compared with a narrower opening
  • A suitable starting geometry for acute pre-bending

The final inside radius produced by air bending is influenced primarily by the V-opening and material characteristics rather than being an exact copy of the punch-tip radius. Material grade, tensile strength, grain direction and springback must therefore be considered when specifying the finished component.

For stainless steel, aluminium or high-strength steel, a different V-opening may be required even when the nominal thickness remains 2 mm.

Typical Applications

This WILA Type V16 30° die is suitable for:

  • Acute-angle bending of approximately 2 mm sheet
  • Pre-forming edges before flattening
  • Producing open, closed or teardrop hems
  • Creating folded safety edges on panels
  • Multi-stage bending of doors and enclosures
  • Manufacturing electrical cabinets and switchgear components
  • Forming machinery guards and equipment covers
  • Producing HVAC panels and duct components
  • Bending appliance housings and metal-furniture parts
  • Mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium fabrication
  • Medium- and high-volume press brake production
  • CNC hydraulic and servo-electric press brakes

When used for hemming, this die creates the initial acute fold. The final edge must be completed with a suitable flattening die, hemming table or dedicated hemming tool.

The stated 2 mm application is a general selection reference. Actual bending capacity depends on the material, bend length, upper-punch profile, required radius and press brake tonnage.

This specification-based product structure helps customers and search engines distinguish the actual purpose of each 30° die instead of treating the pages as duplicate variations.

Product Details & Manufacturing Quality

The die is manufactured from selected 42CrMo alloy steel, providing the toughness and load-bearing stability required for repeated forming. Its working region is hardened to HRC54±2 to improve resistance to shoulder wear, indentation and dimensional change.

The V16 groove and 30° working angle are precision machined along the tool length. Consistent groove geometry supports accurate punch-to-die alignment and helps segmented sections form a continuous, uniform bend line.

The R1.5 mm shoulders provide a smoother transition as the 2 mm sheet moves into the groove. This larger shoulder radius distinguishes the tool from the smaller V-opening models and is better matched to its wider working profile.

The die can be supplied as a continuous tool for long panels or as a segmented set for boxes, cabinets, covers and components with interfering flanges.
